What's up in the Alliance?
Expectations and contributions

Since the Launch Event of the Change Alliance, 40 users have subscribed of which 26 have created a profile on the website. As member of the Change Alliance support group I am really interested in what YOU - an individual member - expect from the Change Alliance. In order to create a learning alliance where people actively share and discuss their experiences, we have to get some grip on what it is exactly that you want to share, learn, or discuss in this alliance.
I can imagine that this is kind of an open question. Therefore I will provide some directions that may be useful. Please do not feel obliged to follow these suggestions, if you have some creative ideas on how you want the Change Alliance to facilitate your specific ‘needs’ (learning/sharing), please feel free to let us know right away!
The Change Alliance provides the following options:
- Discussion page: here you can create a new discussion or react on an existing subject. So far, we have created a discussion on ‘the art of facilitation’, ‘learning in the alliance’ and ‘governance of the alliance – our rulebook’. Our questions is: in what kind of discussions would you like to participate?
- Blog page: here you can create or react on blogs. Do you want to write a blog? What kind of themes would you like to address?
- Action learning sites: do you have an interesting site that you want to share with other members? How do you want to share? What do you want to learn from others?
- Events: do you happen to know of an interesting event that takes place or are you interested in sharing your experience around a specific topic?
- Specific themes/topics, for example: work towards a shared methodology, discuss the use of specific tools for facilitating multi-stakeholder engagement, discuss how to make use of power relations in these processes.
What I ask from YOU is to post specific suggestions, expectations and possible contributions that you are interested in. What are your concrete needs, expectations as a member? How do you want to contribute to the Alliance in concrete terms? What is your expertise that you want to share (and how do you want to share it?)?
Please write your concrete needs and the concrete things you want to contribute as a comment under this blog.

While this site offers many possibilities, I am most interested in learning about methodology that I can then apply to my multi-stakeholder work related to the World Water Forum.

My expectation from the Change Alliance in general is to share experiences in dealing in multi-stakeholder processes (MSPs). Relevant questions for me are:
- Which tools & methods can we apply during different stages of the process?
- How do local circumstances influence the process in a particular country?
- Which organizations of the Change Alliance already have experience in a certain country?
- What are the latest (scientific) insights with regard to the management of MSPs?
The website can certainly facilitate these discussions – the ideas about a discussion page and blog sound very interesting. Especially the ‘specific themes’ section on the website could be very useful, to involve a group of people who are currently active and experienced in a specific field. You can then get a lively discussion.
My personal contribution could be to start a discussion on the application and experience with system dynamics to map and analyze processes. From my institute (http://www.lei.wur.nl/UK/), I can also provide essential economic data as background information for discussions.
Looking forward to see the coming activities!
Kind regards, Tom.

Thak you, Nina. I thought I had already volunteered to work closely with the Change Alliance, representing the International Institute for Sustained Dialogue. I'm particularly interested in facilitating change processes in communities with all degrees of tension, from routine everyday tensions to open conflict. I would like to explore the specifics of this collaboration and will be delighed to join your skype call on Feb.10. Is the time 1600 Netherlands time (which would be 0900 eastern US, I gather)? I can be skyped at: ramon.daubon. Meanwhile let me work on that profile. My expectation is to connect with like-minded practitioners and hopefully collaborate in some activities. Cheers,
Ramon

Hi Nina,
Dark and LIght is looking for ways to find points of leverage to stimulate social inclusion of people with a disability. Currentlly we are planning to setup a pilot on Outcome Mapping in Cambodia to foster inclusive education. For this purpose we are part of the Thematic Learning Programme of PSO. However, I feel that it touches also on the work the Change Alliance is willing to stimulate. Maybe an idea to plan an exchange meeting? Regards, Sander
