Change Alliance Update

published on: 2009-11-30 | written by: pepijnjansen | 0 comments.

We have now explored the idea of the Change Alliance with more than 30 different organisations and found much resonance with the rationale and ambition.

At this stage the initiation of the Alliance is being financially supported by ICCO, Wageningen International and the Generative Change Community.

As you may be aware, over the last year we have engaged with the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DGIS) who expressed interest in the Alliance and have been considering funding support. Based on initial interactions, the Foundation Group had been hoping that funding may have been available for the second half of 2009. Unfortunately, DGIS has not come to a decision on future support and engagement.

However, given the high level of interest shown by the organisations we have contacted, the Foundation Group has decided that we should continue with establishing the Change Alliance and work towards a launch event in December. The scale of what will be possible over the coming period will of course still depend on funding.

At this stage we would like to ask you the following:

1) Do you remain interested in the Change Alliance and would you like to be recognised as a partner?

2) In what ways to you see that your organisation could draw on, benefit from or link with the Change Alliance

3) Would your organisation like to be represented at a proposed Launch event on 2 and 3 December 2009 that would help shape the future of the Alliance?

We have prepared a Survey Monkey Questionnaire based around these questions and would very much appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to fill it in. Please use this link or go to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=Qe7yAFwEfGMPoOMteST3zw_3d_3d  (Please note that there are several pages to this survey, click next at the bottom of each page to move to the next)

The following is planned for between now and the end of December:

- Going public with a Change Alliance web site – which is a first step in linking interested partners and providing a foundation for the global learning platform.

- Providing access to a set of key resources through the web-site

- Further developing and implementing a number of action learning sites with partners

- Linking the proposed launch event with an Innovation Dialogue on “How to Be Strategic in The Face of Complexity – Implications for Global Development Capacities” being organised by Wageningen University and Research Centre, November 30 December 1 – see the attached pre-announcement

- Following up on funding opportunities with DGIS and other potential donors.

- Organising and holding the launch event for the Change Alliance This would involve potential partners and supporters. It would focus on specific case studies; content themes of interest to those participating; future strategy and organisational and funding issues.

As mentioned we have created the first version of a web-site for the Alliance. This has been done with limited resources, but we wanted an initial virtual meeting and sharing place. A graphics person is currently working to ‘freshen’ the look of the site and propose an improved logo and main banner. The ambition is that this will become a very interactive site for sharing and learning around the issues being tackled through the Change Alliance.

At this stage, development of the Change Alliance is being guided by a small Foundation Group, see the concept note or web-site for details. A number of regional organisations have expressed interest to join the Foundation Group and this is currently being negotiated. Wageningen International is acting as a secretariat to the Alliance as well as supporting the knowledge brokering function. In the proposed December workshop the issue of future governance of the Change Alliance will be discussed.

In following up on this email and working towards the launch event you may be contacted by myself, other members of the Foundation Group or Pepijn Jansen an intern who has been supported by ICCO to work on the Change Alliance.
